Are Americans Steering Kilt Fashion Worldwide?

We were asked:
“Because kilt wearing and highland dress is more common here in the US and Canada and not in Scotland except for special occasions and most men in Scotland just hire a kilt, do you think kilt wearers here are driving the next fashion trends in kilts and highland dress?”

Great question! The temptation is to look at the various new designs and looks showing up online and say “yes”. After all, just look at the tyles people show off onj the Kilts & Culture FB group, which has members all over the world. However, this is a more complicated topic than you might think.
