Slovak PM Robert Fico in stable but serious condition after assassination attempt: Health minister

The condition of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stabilized but remains serious, the country's health minister said on Saturday, following Wednesday's assassination attempt against the central European leader.

"It is still a serious health condition, and it's worth mentioning that yesterday's operation, which lasted two hours, contributed to a positive prognosis," Slovakian health minister Zuzana Dolnikova said.

Meanwhile, a Slovak court ruled that the man charged with an assassination attempt will be held in custody, a court spokesperson said.

Hundreds of Fico's supporters gathered in front of the hospital where he is being treated, laid flowers, and held a gathering in a square leading to the hospital entrance.
