Script to Screen - ETHAN AND EDNA (2022) - The Kitchen Scene

After being dumped by his girlfriend, a sad sap (Larry Claudin) must battle through the shame of his failed relationship, and with the help of his foul-mouthed grandma (Donna Weinsting), retrieve the last connection he has to his ex--a phone charger.

In this scene, Edna pressures Ethan into spilling the beans on why he's so down. With a little harsh truth, she attempts to convince Ethan to join her in retrieving his phone charge from his ex. This scene went mostly as scripted, with the actors taking a few liberties in the wording of things, which I'm into as a writer/director. If the words I wrote aren't falling off the tongue right, then say it how you think your character would say it.

In fact, it was during this shoot I really learned that philosophy when I made a fuss about a line read that didn't really matter all that much and it was the learning lesson I needed that as long as we're getting the point of the scene across, the wording of lines can usually be fluid.
