▪︎ Maiden’s Quiver Tree (Aloidendron ramosissimum) in Asphodel, Aloe, Haworthia Family (Asphodelaceae) endemic to Richtersveld, at border between northwestern South Africa & southern Namibia, where it grows on desert slopes & in ravines as well as some open, flat areas.

Is similar in appearance to (Aloidendron dichotomum) or even larger (Aloidendron barberae) but grows bushier & shorter in stature.

Forms many branches from ground level. This is the only significant difference between (Aloidendron dichotomum) & (Aloidendron ramosissimum). Branching continues as plant becomes older, resulting in a dense, almost spherical shrub up to 2 m high & wide.

Stems are smooth & covered with a waxy, grey powder, which acts as a sunscreen in harsh climate.

Branches end in small rosettes of fleshy, oblong leaves, each up to 200 mm long ,& 20 mm wide at base.

Leaf colour is glaucous-green or yellowish green, often with a pinkish tinge. Margins have narrow edges with brownish teeth. Flowers appear from June to August. Usually 3-branched inflorescence is short, up to 200 mm long, with comparatively large, swollen, fleshy flowers which are bright yellow.

Capsules are shiny & smooth & when dry, split into three, remaining fused at base.

Seeds are narrow, winged, up to about 30 x18 mm.
