We received an exciting venomous snake surrender this last weekend; a highly venomous western green mamba. This animal was given to our staff in a lockable wooden box that served as it’s hide (about the size of a large shoe box). This posed an interesting conundrum for our venom manager, Cale. This snake is armed with aggressive dendrotoxin venom that can cause severe neurological damage and even death to those bitten within an hour (if not treated with anti-venom), not to mention they are lightning fast ⚡️.

We have three species of mamba at the sanctuary (eastern green, western green and black), and many of them have came to us as illegal pets. We strongly suggest you reconsider trying to keep an animal like this as a pet, they are a handful to say the least.

Once he has finished his quarantine, this snake will be on display in our venomous snake hall!
