Vanessa was reared in a very Catholic home with the traditional confession, communion, and confirmation celebrations. He parents were strict with rules and regulations that Vanessa’s other friends and cousins didn’t seem to have. At ten, she began to experience resentment towards her parents. This resentment triggered episodes of acting out which laid the groundwork for teenage revolt. Then a life changing event at age 16 compounded her rebellion. Vanessa was at school when a stranger approached her and introduced himself as her biological father. She wasn’t aware of his existence or even that she had been adopted. It was a double whammy of an experience meeting her real father and going home to confront her mom and husband whom she thought was her Dad. Feelings of betrayal and abandonment stirred up emotions of insurrection and defiance. Vanessa moved out from her home as soon as she graduated from high school.
