Join me for a peaceful walk around Shatterford and Denny Wood, exploring a quieter, less-visited corner of the New Forest. This route follows shaded forest tracks and gentle woodland paths, passing through a mix of mature trees and open clearings that give this area its calm, timeless character.

Denny Wood sits close to the edge of the open Forest and reflects the New Forest’s long history as a working woodland and grazing landscape. For centuries these woods have been shaped by forestry, commoning, and natural processes, creating the varied woodland structure you see today. The area still feels very traditional, with sandy tracks, broadleaf woodland, and glimpses of open forest between the trees.

As you walk, you may spot or hear New Forest ponies, cattle, deer, and woodland birds, with the changing seasons bringing different colours, light, and wildlife activity. From fresh spring greens to autumn leaf-fall and winter stillness, this part of the Forest is quietly atmospheric year-round.

This is a gentle, immersive woodland walk, ideal if you enjoy slower routes, subtle wildlife moments, and the peaceful side of the New Forest away from the busier locations.
