This piece is a dedication to the journey — and to finding your rhythm after the long road of learning, listening, and living.
It’s a nod to the process, the patience, and the pulse that carries us forward.
The band and I poured our hearts into this. From the first rehearsal to the final mix, we chased something real — and we’re grateful to finally start sharing it with you.
*Paying Dues*, the full album, drops July 25th.
Until then, help us spread the word: watch, share, and pre-save

Liner Notes – Paying Dues by Kyle Green
Jazz has always been a language passed from player to player, generation to generation — a conversation shaped by listening, learning, and time spent on the bandstand. Paying Dues is a reflection of that process.
This album is not about making a grand statement. It’s about showing respect — to the musicians who came before, to the communities that shaped the music, and to the everyday work of growing as an artist. These tunes come from a place of deep study and personal reflection, developed over years of playing, listening, and searching.
Kyle Green, a guitarist and composer, brings together an international group of like-minded musicians for this recording. Each of them brings their own voice and history, but shares a common understanding: the tradition matters, and so does adding something honest to it.
Michael Lauren (drums, USA) – Lauren provides a rhythmic foundation rooted in jazz tradition, while lending a thoughtful, creative edge that propels the ensemble forward.
Liévin Lefebvre (organ, France) – Lefebvre’s organ playing shapes the texture and feel of the music with deep groove, rich voicings, and intuitive support.
César Cardoso (saxophone, Portugal) – Cardoso brings thoughtful improvisation and a lyrical sensibility that anchors the ensemble in expressive clarity and tradition.
Ricardo Formoso (flugelhorn, Spain) – With bold melodic ideas and fearless improvisation, Formoso’s flugelhorn adds color, emotional weight, and lyrical depth, expanding the ensemble’s sonic reach.
The compositions themselves are rooted in familiar forms, but leave space for exploration. They reference the lineage — blues, post bop, even touches of spiritual jazz — but they don’t attempt to recreate it. Instead, the focus is on conversation, space, and trust between the players.
Paying Dues isn’t meant to impress. It’s meant to contribute. It’s an acknowledgment and appreciation of where the music comes from, and a small offering made in gratitude for being part of its ongoing story.
