The Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster, located on the River Thames in London, serves as the meeting place for the UK Parliament. Its history stretches back over 900 years, originating as a royal residence before becoming the home of the British Parliament. The current structure, designed by Sir Charles Barry in the Gothic Revival style, was built after a devastating fire in 1834 destroyed much of the original medieval building. Barry's design was executed with the assistance of Augustus Pugin, a specialist in Gothic architecture

Big Ben

Big Ben is actually the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. Often, the name is extended to refer to both the clock and the Elizabeth Tower in which it resides. The tower was completed in 1859, and the first chime of Big Ben rang out on July 11, 1859. The clock tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the United Kingdom and a symbol of parliamentary democracy
