Career Education: Year 5 & 6 students at St Mary's College, Adelaide

Students in Years 5 and 6 at St Mary's College have engaged in career education during 2022, using the BECOME career education program. Exploring career possibilities, challenging the gender stereotypes associated with work and increasing students' knowledge of the range of jobs available, supports young people to feel more positive and confident about their future. Career education beginning in the Primary Years enables students to develop a deeper sense of who they are, what matters to them about future work and helps them see greater relevance to their school learning. Career education has positive benefits for students' intrinsic motivation, with teachers noticing an increase in students' literacy and numeracy skills over time because students' perspective of the relevance of their learning at school is enhanced through career education.
