Описание к видео Padmanabhapuram Palace A Timeless Wonder of Kerala | SanskritiXP - Exploring Art, Culture & People

Tucked away in the lush greenery of Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, yet steeped in the royal legacy of Kerala, Padmanabhapuram Palace is a breathtaking example of traditional Kerala architecture. Built in the 16th century by the rulers of the Travancore Kingdom, this wooden palace is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, history, and cultural heritage.

A Palace of Wood & Wonder

Unlike the grand stone palaces of North India, Padmanabhapuram Palace is entirely made of wood! Teak, rosewood, and jackfruit wood come together to create a structure that remains cool even in the scorching summer. Intricate wood carvings, lattice windows, and polished granite floors showcase the artistic brilliance of Kerala’s artisans.

A Walk Through History

Every corner of the palace tells a story of royalty and tradition. Some highlights include:

🏰 Mantrasala (Council Chamber) – The king’s private chamber, with stunning rosewood carvings and a natural air-cooling system.

🌿 Ekantha Mandapam (Meditation Hall) – A peaceful corner where the king used to meditate, surrounded by delicate floral carvings.

🪑 Durbar Hall – Home to a huge black granite throne, this hall was where kings held court. The polished floors, made with a mix of egg whites, coconut shells, and lime, shine even today!

🛏️ King’s Bedroom – Features a 17th-century medicinal bed made of 64 types of herbs and wood, believed to have healing properties.

🎭 Performance Hall (Navarathri Mandapam) – A grand space where musicians and dancers once performed for the royal family.

Secret Passages & Hidden Stories

Like every royal palace, Padmanabhapuram has its mysteries! It is said that there were secret underground passages used by the kings during emergencies. Though closed to the public today, their existence adds an air of intrigue to this historic wonder.

How to Reach Padmanabhapuram Palace

📍 Location: About 35 km from Kanyakumari & 55 km from Trivandrum, in Tamil Nadu, but maintained by Kerala’s archaeology department.
