Описание к видео Swallowing Exercise Chin Tuck Against Resistance Repetitive

Swallowing challenges are a common concern during and after head and neck cancer treatment. Exercises can play a huge role in protecting swallowing ability and preventing complications. In this video, we’ll walk you through the Chin Tuck Against Resistance (CTAR) Repetitive exercise—a simple but effective way to strengthen the muscles that support swallowing.

This exercise is performed by placing a rolled-up towel or a comfortable cushion between your chin and your upper chest, right above the collarbones. With steady control, you gently push your chin down into the towel, hold briefly, then relax and release. Repeat this cycle while keeping your breathing calm and steady. There should never be pain, tightness, or discomfort. If you notice these, stop and consult your healthcare provider.

The CTAR Repetitive exercise is not a standalone solution but works best as part of a set of swallowing strategies recommended by your therapist. These exercises may help improve muscle activation, reduce fatigue, and support safer swallowing after cancer treatment.

Radiation therapy can also lead to trismus, a condition where jaw movement becomes restricted. Trismus makes eating, speaking, and even performing swallowing exercises much harder. That’s why we provide both education and tools designed specifically for this problem.
