2:42 Step 1: Making the Mold
6:59 Step 2: Pouring the Casting Stone
8:58 Step 3: Finishing Your Statue

What's Included in Your Hand Casting Kit:
1x Step 1 molding powder
1x Step 2 casting stone
1x Molding bucket
1x Detailing pin
1x Wooden stick
1x De-molding stick
Sandpaper

Instructions

Recommended Extras (Not Included):
Mixing bowl
Mixing Utensil or Whisk
Measuring cup
Distilled water (to ensure no minerals disrupt the bonding process or the color-changing feature of the molding powder)
Paper towels
Clay (or a similar material to thicken long nails and reduce the chances of breaking during the de-molding process)

5 Helpful Tips for Best Results:

Tip 1:
To get the casting stone into the finger portions of the mold, make sure fingers are not curved upward. Air tends to get trapped in this position, making it hard for the stone to fill them properly. It's okay to curve the fingers if the fingertips are at the lowest point in the molding bucket or have a tight fist or firm grasp on another hand.

Tip 2:
To preserve fingernails in the casting, place a small amount of clay (or similar) behind the nails before making the mold. This makes them 2-3 times thicker than normal and helps prevent them from breaking off the finished statue. The added thickness is hardly noticeable.

Tip 3:
Having an extra person who is not involved in the casting process can be very helpful. They can read the instructions, mix molding powder, and tend to any children that may be involved. Although some wiggling is okay, it might be challenging to mold a young child’s hand if they are cranky or upset.

Tip 4:
Always add the powder to the water, not the other way around. This prevents the material from bonding and setting prematurely due to a lack of water.

Tip 5:
Both the Step 1 Molding Powder and the Step 2 Casting Stone react with water to perform their functions. If you have any questions about the pH or mineral levels (hardness) of your tap water, it’s best to use distilled water.

We hope you enjoyed creating your special keepsake as much as we enjoyed helping you make it! Don’t forget to share your masterpiece with us on social media and tag #LunaBeanCasting for a chance to be featured.
