WE VISITED KOCHI IN MARCH 2019

We arrived in Kochi after catching a public bus from Alleppey. We planned to arrive at about lunchtime as we wanted to meet up with Dan’s Auntie and Uncle, as we had a days overlap with their trip. After meeting up for some fresh lemonade and iced tea at Loafers Corner, we headed for a walk on the waterfront to see the unique fishing nets of Kochi (We ate lunch in Dal Roti, where dan had a excellent mutton thali). We stopped off for some cake then went to the Kathakali Art Centre to watch the martial arts show which was mind blowing. The control and skill of these people was insane! Afterwards, we found an amazing beach facing bar to grab some beers and watch over the sunset over the sea. Seeing Uncle Nigel and Auntie Julie was a bit of home for us and we thoroughly enjoyed our day in Kochi catching up with their adventures in India! They treated us throughout the day and we would like to thank them again for being very kind to us! Next day we went the Jewish Quarter in Kochi to wonder around the antique shops and see the synagogue and Palace (cameras were not allowed in the Synagogue). After the amazing martial arts show, we headed back to the Kathakali art centre to see the Kathakali show. Arriving an hour early means you get to see the actors putting the make up which is a interesting feat in itself. The eye movements and facial expressions are extremely important in showing emotion. Seeds are placed in the actors eyes before performance so their eyes are red and more obvious during the show. A narrator is present during the show to help you understand what’s going on!! We loved both art performances and would recommend them to anyone! Next Stop - Munnar!!
