Mozart Snapshot #31: Wolferl, St. Peter, and Austria's Oldest Library

Leopold Mozart always referred to his son Wolfgang as "the miracle that God let be born in Salzburg." But what brought Leopold, a native of Augsburg, Bavaria, to Salzburg in the first place, and what was the city like in the 1700s? In this episode of Mozart Snapshots, we delve into the history of the city where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and visit the St. Peter's Monastery where are joined by music historian and director of the music archives of St. Peter, Father Petrus Eder, who lets us take a look at two original Mozart manuscripts inside Austria’s oldest library.

About Mozart Snapshots:

Each and everyone of us is shaped by the place where we spend our earliest years. Mozart was no exception. One of the first true cosmopolites of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a native of the picturesque alpine city of Salzburg, Austria. In this new series, I will explore Mozart's relationship to his home town through fun-filled conversations, insightful interviews and once-in-a-lifetime visits to interesting locations in Salzburg that have a special connection to Mozart and his family, then and now.
