Professor of Radiology and Consultant, Departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery; Program Director, Neuroradiology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine

This presentation on 7T MRI for neuroimaging explores the potential of using ultra-highfield 7T MRI in the clinical setting. We will briefly review major limitations and advantages of 7T MRI versus conventional clinical MRI. We then review several established roles of 7T MRI in clinical neuroimaging, including its use in imaging the brain's structure, function, and metabolism. Examples will be shown where 7T aided in arriving at the correct diagnosis in a number of neurological disorders. The potential clinical implications of these advances in neuroimaging are also discussed, including the potential for more accurate diagnoses, earlier disease detection, and personalized treatment planning. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of the future directions of research in this field, including the need for continued development of hardware and software, as well as the exploration of new applications for 7T MRI in clinical practice.
