In 2006 I was severely harmed by a "Routine" Nasal Surgery. In researching HOW and WHY, I found out that I was not alone and that MANY others were harmed too. There are in fact multiple forums and online support groups with many thousands of people from all over the world. These are normal people from all walks of life that had no single voice are were being completely ignored by the medical "profession" that caused their ill health. Many people have lost their jobs, their marriages, their houses and many have also committed suicide thanks to horrid side effects of nasal surgeries. Nasal surgeries can cause surgically induced Central Sleep Apnea. That means you lose your ability to breathe while you sleep. You can no longer sense airflow in your nose and you get very real suffocation sensations in your brain which drive you insane 24-7. Other issues are immense nerve pains that feel like your nose is burning, headaches due to those same nerve pains to the point where your brain literally HURTS. (Just slightly bending over makes your brain hurt even worse). crusting, breathlessness, panic attacks, anxiety, chronic fatigue and a host of other related issues. It may not even be apparent to some initially that the problem was their nose surgery. Many of the issues seem central nervous system related but it all stems from breathing. By the time symptoms become obvious to you it is too late. I spent years on Forums trying to get help and understand my condition. My very first online "Empty Nose" friend John killed himself in 2011 not long after I met him. I was unsure what "Empty Nose" was, or if I had it, but John had mentioned being able to feel air hitting the back of his throat. One day while cooking, I was out of breath (cooking) and having anxiety. All of a sudden I drew a deep breath (which is hard to do with ENS) and I noticed that I felt air slamming into the back of my throat. It was dry and hurting. That was the exact moment that "I knew I was one of them". I spent years connecting to people in online groups. It is not dissimilar to Trigeminal Neuralgia because it is the same nerve branch in your nose and right behind your eyes..... and next to your brain. So it is a REALLY bad place to mess up! Usually people don't mention the "S" word. we all encourage each other to fight and to get help. Some help finally did appear on the scene thanks to a good doctor at Stanford but unfortunately too late for many who lost hope years before repairs started to become possible. I work in engineering so I started documenting my case. Then, I figured out how to model airflow through my CT scans. I did my best to get help for myself and others. Once my website was finished I started thinking of making a video to help educate people and warn them. I was feeling VERY sick myself but fought hard to start the video. I had to work my usual full time job and found this project to be VERY time consuming. I found it hard to tell such a complex story in the usual short time frame so this turned into an extended educational documentary. Many ENS friends online knew of the video and I kept telling them "It will be out soon"!!! only to be overwhelmed by life. So this project spans about 6 years! and is dedicated to everyone on the forums who silently suffer with no voice. I lost many friends and one of my chapters was going to be a tribute to them with pictures of them. The video was NOT moving forward so today January 2024 my New Years Resolution was to release what I had and worry about part II later. Lets see how the world reacts to part I first. I dedicate this to John and all the members we lost along the way as well as all of those suffering in forums all over the world. Peace.
