VIDEO: Watch how Saraki empowers Rashidi Yekini's mother, other siblings

The Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has through his Football Club, the ABS FC, lent a hand of support to the family of Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria late football legend who died four years ago.

There were reports earlier in the year that the family of the late African Footballer of the Year, particularly his mother, Alhaja Sikiratu Yekini and younger brother, Mr. Akeem Yekini, were struggling to survive after the demise of their breadwinner. The reports, which broke the internet as at the time of release, arose sympathy for the family leading to the intervention of well meaning Nigerians, one of which is the Senate President who responded swiftly by ordering his Football Club to devise immediate means of ameliorating the sufferings of the Yekinis in Ijagbo, Oyun LGA of Kwara State.

The intervention saw the comprehensive renovation of the living apartment of the Yekinis, stocking of the shop of Alhaja Sikiratu with assorted provisions and raw food materials, textile materials and cash support.

Akeem on the other hand was given a brand new tricycle, known popularly as Keke NAPEP in local circle. Akeem until now was digging Wells and latrines for survival.

While handling over the items to the family in the home town of the Yekinis, the manager of the ABS FOOTBALL CLUB, Mr. Alloy Chukwuemeka, who represented the Senate President, said that there was no gesture too big for the family that produced Nigeria greatest legend, Rashidi Yekini. He said apart from the items, the Senate President also approved constant medical services for the aged mother of Rashidi. Alloy was accompanied to the event by select players of the ABS FC.

Responding on behalf of the family, Alhaja Sikiratu Yekini, who couldn't hide her joy said that the interventions of the Senate President, through his Football Club was a huge surprise to the family. She expressed appreciation to Saraki and his representatives for coming to the aide of the family despite that he doesn't represent the Senatorial District where their hometown falls in.
