0:43 Stone Cross Mansion

Myself and my buddy Chris who came along from Leicester to explore Cumbria Lake District together with a sneaky trip to west Yorkshire dales.

We stayed at Stone Cross Mansion in Ulverston which was an amazing place and full of history. It was owned by a family called the Kennedys, whom died out and left the mansion abandoned for 8 years! It was eventually sold by the local council and refurbished into 19 modern apartments.

10:12 Day 1 - Ingleton Falls Trail

Day 1 we decided to hike around a 5 mile trail around Ingleton waterfalls, in west yorkshire dales. This was the only paid hike we did. But we both agreed this hike was well worth the money and it was free parking. The weather was a perfect 23 degrees with blue sky's which made the hike a moment to remember. The trail took as around 2 hours to complete with an accent of 500 feet

The landscape here was absolutely amazing. The sun glistening on the water made this hike a perfect start to our trip. The water falls were stunning, and an ice cream van was awaiting us at the top which helped us cool down before the decent the other side of the falls.

14:40 Day 2 - Grange to Castle Crag

Day 2 we planned a hike from the picturesque village of Grange to Castle Crag. The hike was around 5.5 miles with an accent of 1500 feet. The hike took around 4 hours with perfect views from the top of Castle Crag. Again, it was another perfect day of sunshine of 22 degrees. On the way down, we explored Millican Daltons Cave, and to finish off the hike, we stopped off for a well-deserved cream scone and tea at the local village café. Another excellent hike that I recommend to anyone visiting the Lake district.

20:38 Day 3 - Wray Castle

Day 3, we planned a tour of Honister Slate mine. Our tour was booked for mid morning, so first we stopped at Wray Castle. The morning was misty, which made the castle feel even more majestic. Unfortunately, the castle was closed due to the staff being ill that day, so we headed to Honister.

21:30 Day 3 - Honister Mine

Located on an iconic mountain pass in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Honister is England’s last working slate mine and home to some of the most unique adventure activities you’ll find in the UK. The production of Westmorland Green slate dates back over 450 million years. Visitors of Honister are offered chance to take part in guided mine tours, where you can explore deep underground and learn about the fascinating world of slate mining, to heart-racing adrenaline activities like Via Ferrata, Cliff Camping, Climb the Mine and Canyoning.

24:56 Day 3 - Rydal Water and Cave

In the afternoon, we planned a 2.5-mile hike to Rydal Cave in Ambleside that took us around 2 hours to complete. Rydal Cave is a large cavern on the north side of Loughrigg Fell, above Rydal Water. This famous lakeland beauty spot is actually man-made as a result of slate quarrying in the area.

27:40 Day 4 - Tarn How's to Cathedral Quarry

Day 4 Today, we hiked just shy of 10 miles from Tarn Hows to Little Langdale Quarry to see Cathedral Cave. Another 22 degrees, which is amazing for the Lake District and took us just over 3 hours of hiking. This hike was one of the best hikes so far and the most challenging. The landscape here is absolutely breathtaking, and I highly recommend this route.

34:30 Day 5 - Ambleside and Windermere

Day 5 Today, Chris made plans for us to have a well-deserved day from hiking to recover, which I agreed. So chris planned a trip on a train to windermere and a boat from windermere to Ambleside. I really enjoyed a day off the trails. We had 2 hours to explore Ambleside town and had a pint at the local pub before heading back to the boat, which takes around 1 hour from top to bottom of lake windermere. The train station looked like something out of Harry Potter. It was a great days rest, ready for our final hike tomorrow.

38:33 Day 6 - Aira Force and Ullswater

Day 6 This was another challenging hike of 5.6 miles that took us 3.5 hours with a maximum accent of 2225 feet. Aira force falls via Gowbarrow fell loop. The day started misty, which gave the place a majestic feel of the landscape that made this day one to remember. The views of Ullswater, and Yew crag were amazing with the mist in the distance over Hind crag as the sun broke through the clouds. This is another highly recommended hike for sure, and all my GPS tracks are available to follow on Komoot. Links are in the video description below.
