Patients with fissure in ano will have severe pain while passing stools. Occasionally they will have bleeding while passing stools and patient will have persistent pain for 1 to 2 hours and burning sensation lasts for a day. Usually the risk factors for fissure in ano is habitual constipation, passing hard stool, consumption of less water and less fiber diet. The diagnosis for fissure in ano is usually by specialist, we do a clinical examination, where we see a crack in the anal region sometimes there will be multiple cracks in the anal region that we cannot touch the anus while examination. The treatment is lifestyle modification like consumption of plenty of water, high fiber diet and avoid constipation. Stress is one of the factors to develop fissure in ano. The surgical treatment options are very simple . So we do a day care procedure, that is a laser treatment and it is just sphincter dilatation. So patient will have a sphincter spasm. That is the main cause for the patient to develop fissure in ano. We do a sphincter dilatation, anal dilatation, sometimes sphincterotomy. We do use lasers for treatment of fissures. Treatment is a day acre surgery. In our centre, If the patient comes in the morning, I can discharge by afternoon. The patient will have less pain, less bleeding post operatively.
