On the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr, FSU baseball teamed up with the FSU Black Student Union to honor Negro Leagues.

The team wore hats recognizing the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City, Mo and honor the African-American players of the early 20th century.

Fred Flowers, the first African-American student athlete at FSU, threw out the first pitch prior to the game. Flowers is memorialized as part of the Integration Statue outside the FSU student union.

The Black Student Union at Florida State is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018. From its mission statement, the BSU “offers black students a form of identity…and seeks to develop unity among black students so that jointly and strongly they can express concerns and problems faced on campus.”
