The Hilltop Aerie House, designed by Aidlin Darling Design and located in Glen Ellen, California, was created for a couple seeking a simple and cost-effective home. Situated on a 20-acre property at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the residence offers spectacular views of the Sonoma Valley.
The house consists of three boxes totaling 3,100 square feet, two of which are clad in black zinc and rise from the ground, while the third is a glass pavilion that appears to float between them. The living/dining area and the master suite are contained within the glass box, while the kitchen and two guest bedrooms, each with a bathroom, are located in the zinc structures.
The entrance is along a path of western red cedar, which is also used on the ceiling and deck of the master suite.
The interiors feature a neutral palette with warm woods and minimalistic furniture. A 45-foot-long pool and hot tub on the outdoor deck provide an ideal social environment for enjoying time with friends.
