This session will equip pre-hospital clinicians, paramedics, and anyone involved in paediatric trauma care with the skills to confidently manage paediatric trauma patients in challenging pre-hospital environments. Topics will include: - Understanding the anatomical and physiological differences that matter in paediatric trauma. - Prioritising urgent interventions. - Effective pain management strategies tailored to children. - Practical tips for managing the emotional needs of young patients and their families.

About James:

Dr James Nayyar is a pre-hospital doctor and anaesthetist with a subspecialty focus on paediatric care. James works as a HEMS doctor with ‘The Air Ambulance Service’ and as a BASICS doctor for the East Midlands Ambulance Service. His passion for paediatric emergency care and the professional well-being of his colleagues in the ambulance service led him to founding the KidConfident Project (kidconfident.org), a free open-access paediatric medical education project targeted towards UK ambulance clinicians. His mission is to boost the confidence of paramedics and ambulance clinicians in providing exceptional care to young patients.

About Dawn:

I’m an Assistant Professor of paramedic science in Bradford, an enhanced care paramedic in the North East and come from a Military background (22 years as a combat medic). Teach all things resuscitation wise but especially teaching paediatrics showing the doctors what paramedics can do. About Derek:

I'm a paediatric emergency medicine registrar at Nottingham Children's MTC. I came to medicine later in life after working as a Paramedic and then Emergency Care Practitioner in Manchester for NWAS. I have a unique perspective from most of my paediatric medics and have a better understanding of the challenges to prehospital paediatrics and the lack of paediatric training that is provided. That's why I'm involved with KidConfident's message to boost prehospital confidence.
