Former district president of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Hafiz Mohammad Sikander Malik is contesting Jammu and Kashmir elections from Bandipora constituency as an Independent candidate. Malik served as district president of JeI until the organisation was banned. He was arrested in 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, and was twice booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). In an interview with ThePrint, he says that despite being out on bail, his privacy remains violated as his movements are tracked constantly.
