Your medication Carbidopa & Levodopa

Carbidopa/levodopa is also known as the brand name: Sinemet, Duopa, Parcopa, and Sinemet CR

Carbidopa/levodopa comes in 10/100: Carbidopa 10 mg and levodopa 100 mg, 25/100: Carbidopa 25 mg and levodopa 100 mg, 25/250: Carbidopa 25 mg and levodopa 250 mg tablets. Carbidopa/levodopa also comes in 25/100: Carbidopa 25 mg and levodopa 100 mg, and 50/200: Carbidopa 50 mg and levodopa 200 mg extended release tablets.

Carbidopa/levodopa is most commonly used for Parkinson’s Disease. Carbidopa/levodopa may also be used for restless legs. Carbidopa/levodopa can be taken on an empty stomach or with food and should be swallowed whole not crushed or chewed.


Standard dosing of carbidopa/levodopa is 25/100 mg taken three times a day.

Some common side effects with carbidopa/levodopa include: swelling in the arms or legs, dizziness, headache, involuntary movements, and nausea.
Some less common side effects with carbidopa/levodopa include: dry mouth and confusion.

Do not take carbidopa/levodopa if you have narrow angle glaucoma.

While taking carbidopa/levodopa remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
• Signs of an allergic reactions such as rash, hives, or itching
• Severe mood changes
• Hallucinations
• Strong urges that you can’t control
• Involuntary movements
