Learning Objectives and Outcome: The objectives of the course are to impart a comprehensive knowledge

andunderstanding of history and culture of India up to 550 CE The course introduces sources for the study, earlycultureandcivilizations,developmentofdifferentreligioustraditions,evolutionofancientIndianpolitywithmajorpol itical events, political geography and chronology.It also deals with the age of foreign incursions, structure ofearly Indian society and the nature of economic transformation. Focus is also placed on analysis and explanation ofancient India'sculturalachievements.

Students will have a familiarity with the sources, different political, social, economic, cultural and religioustraditions of the Indian subcontinent up to 550 C.F. Student will also be well versed with different analyticalapproachesandmodelsofinterpretation.
