In times of economic downturn, popular music tends to get happier. This video explores why that happens with popular music when the economy is bad--and what happens with popular music when the economy is doing fine.

Since Billboard started tracking top songs in 1936 in the United States of America, trends have emerged between the economy and the types of songs that chart. As a general rule, the worse the economy, the better the music.

This video also explores normal goods verses inferior goods, and morale boosters through The Lipstick Effect.

I don't know, I did get an MBA, but I tried to simplify the concepts. This isn't a deep dive, won't lie. I was trying to get this video around eight minutes long.

ALSO when I calculated the BPM, two songs, in particular, had weird data. Love Me Like You Do and Fight Song, in some places, were listed with extremely high BPM's, and also halved. For these calculations, I went with the halved BPM's because those songs are slow. I actually filmed myself saying that, but cut it out because I didn't think anyone would care about two of the three-hundred and twenty songs. But I did want to mention it because it impacted the 2015 data point.

Also, I didn't think I could play the actual songs with copyright, so like. I didn't.
