In this video, Dr. Judy and her Mom, Nanny, share the latest events that the family has gone through with Nanny's passing out Friday evening at home. At first, they thought that Nanny had experienced a seizure. But a doctor's visit the next day showed that Nanny had suffered from syncope which is an episode of the heart stopping. Dr. Judy explains that this same thing actually occurs in our pets and that what is often thought to be a seizure is actually heart-related. For Nanny, the answer will be putting in a pacemaker today that will keep her heart from experiencing this anymore. Dr. Judy shares that, as with humans, it is becoming more of a norm to see pacemakers being placed in dogs as well. In conclusion, Dr. Judy advises pet parents who think their pets have had seizures to ask for labs and tests on the heart as well just to rule out the possibility of Syncope.
