A bloc of Liberal moderates reportedly hold concerns a flare-up in the coal-fired power debate could risk the climate policy "re-set" promised by Scott Morrison following the last election, says Sky News Political Reporter Tom Connell.

Discussion have been underway since the re-election of the Morrison Government, with the prime minister promising the Liberal MPs the government would refocus its policy and promote technology as a way to reduce emissions.

Mr Connell said while moderate Liberals do not want to create instability, one MP said their backs were against the wall on climate change in a whole host of city seats.

“They believe from interactions with voters that many seats were only saved last time because of economic issues, including franking credits,” he said.

"Most Liberals are working on the assumption Collinsville will not be found to be a viable option, and from there a technology re-set can be the focus."
