Eleftherios Bourdakis (European Commission | DG. RTD) gives you an introduction to the opportunities that #HorizonEurope and the #GreenDeal offer for the #BuildingSector.

On 15 July 2020, the Bavarian Research Alliance (#BayFOR) co-hosted the online event “Building the future 2020 – boosting innovation in the construction industry”. Projects developing new construction materials to reduce the carbon footprint of #buildings and fostering a #CircularEconomy showed how this industry can become more #sustainable. The event also marks the end of the EU project #INNOVIP (“Innovative multi-functional Vacuum-Insulation-Panels (VIPs) for use in the building sector”).

Energy efficiency in buildings is a major global challenge. Buildings and their construction account for 36 percent of global energy use and 39 percent of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions annually. All over the world, innovative projects try to tackle these issues by developing new building materials and solutions for the future.

“Building the future 2020” invited stakeholders from the building industry, academia and decision-makers to get valuable insights into developments in the building sector that go beyond state-of-the-art. The half-day session featured several innovation-driven projects and start-ups working on solutions for tomorrow. Representatives from the European Commission, the Oxford Brookes University (UK), the companies Va-Q-Tec, KEWAZO and HOREICH as well as research enablers like Fraunhofer IVV gave presentations. The event was hosted by BayFOR in collaboration with the Forschungsinstitut für Wärmeschutz (FIW) and the Network for Solid Construction Bavaria.
