I'd stared at that last sentence for a long time before tucking the invitation into my desk drawer.
Now, standing in the grand ballroom of the Riverside Club, I watched Vanessa orchestrate her wedding rehearsal with the precision of a military campaign. Every detail was perfect—the floral arrangements, the table settings, the lighting. Everything except me, apparently.
"Olivia," my mother said, approaching me with that particular expression she'd perfected over the years—loving concern mixed with deep disappointment. "Did you bring something else to wear for tomorrow?"
