There have been requests for creating button and labels in MidiDesigner Pro that, when “On”, change colors and/or change text and/or change brightness. This can be accomplished with overlapping panels and objects such as buttons and labels. I have designed several layered layouts and found the best way, at least for me, to handle them.

This is Part 2 of a 3-part tutorial for creating and editing layers in MidiDesigner Pro Design Mode. Part 1 is an Introduction and Demonstration of using layers. Part 2 is how to create and assemble a layered layout. Part 3 is how to edit the layout such that the layering effect is maintained.

Layered effects can be difficult to create and maintain in MidiDesigner Pro. Selecting an object will bring it to the top. Send to Back is the only option to move it to a lower layer. This may not be where the object is located.

The procedures contained in this tutorial series makes it possible to create and maintain layering. Layers can contain groups of buttons, labels, and panels that may or may not contain controls. Allowing Panel Controls may contain buttons, knobs, labels, etc., but not other panels. Hidden panels will hide underlying layers when active. Labels can be above or below controls and panels.
