Combining a wax resist with stencils and an overglaze can create intricate decorations for your finished piece.

This video explains how you can achieve the best results with careful handling and a synthetic sponge.

Secure your stencil to the tile using tape around the edges to keep it in place

Dab the sponge in the wax resist/emulsion and gently apply to the tile, making sure that all the stencil gaps have been covered

Once dry, place in a container and elevate the tile so that you can cover the sides as well (this will also help keep mess to a minimum!)

Cover the tile with the glaze with a nice even spread and gently shake to remove any excess liquid

Use a brush to remove any glaze that remains over the wax resist/emulsion

Fire your patterned tile to the appropriate firing schedule
