(1960) When a Broadway producer attempts to bribe him into writing a favorable review in his column, Hal throws him out. However, it eventuates that Hal is the only one of all the critics who believes the play is a success.

Hal Towne is a Los Angeles widower with a bright ten-year-old son to raise (aided by a stern housekeeper). He writes a syndicated column, "All Around Towne," which brings him into contact with numerous competitors for the favors of his publicity-agent girlfriend.
