Did you know that Batswana and Basotho are from the same Bantu ethnic group called the Sotho-Tswana or sometimes just called the Sotho? The Sotho-Tswana people group is made up of four clusters; The Northern Sotho or Transvaal which includes the Pedi and Lobedu; the Southern Sotho who are Basotho in Lesotho; the Western Sotho includes the Tswana and Kgalagadi; and the Eastern Sotho made up of the Pai, Kutswe and Pulana. Sotho-Tswana are mainly found in Northern South Africa with 15 million people and Botswana and Lesotho with about 2 million people each.

The distinguishing cultural traits of the group include round huts with a conical thatch roofing and pillars on the outside, large-close settlements, totemism, skin cloaks and the right for men to marry their maternal cousins. The language of the Sotho- Tswana is similar with different dialects.
