Historically, VC fund LP positions have been seen as a passive investment vehicle for corporations who lacked skills or did not seek to build out a dedicated investment program/ team. That is no longer the case.

GCV Keystone survey data shows that close to half of CVCs (47%) do invest in VC funds. And while some use LP positions as a ‘toe in the water’ for learning to make investments in startups, many now employ LP stakes in a more sophisticated way to:
• Expand into new geographies
• Access specialist sector expertise
• Draw insights from very early-stage startups via seed funds
But it takes two to tango – and some GP/ strategic LP relationships are more valuable than others.
