by John Madewell Saturday marks the two year anniversary of the deadly tornadoes that ripped through many communities.Today, we went back to one of the hardest hit areas - Apison, Tn.A drive back over the same impacted areas shows positive signs: new homes and freshly repaired ones all along Clonts Road.But at the same time, the landscape is still marred with twisted dead trees and some people are still rebuilding.With the sound of a cutting torch in hand, Bill Smith is one man coming back piece by piece. I have to do it as I can earn the money. And at my age, I'm almost 70 years old, and as you age you got places hurt that you didn't even know you owned before, so I have to do it as I can, Smith said with a laugh. He spent the day, with two young men helping him, bending metal frames back into place. They will serve as the spine to an addition to his carport, still under construction two years after the tornadoes.The vicious storms ripped his roof and vinyl siding off. They also destroyed his windows, garage and carport.And Smith didn't have insurance. He said the journey back is one of the most difficult he's made in his life. I've always been bulletproof. Like I said I lived through five years of Vietnam with basically nothing. Like I said I always thought I was bulletproof, nothing could hurt me and this has sure put a dose of humility.Smith lives off Apison Pike very near where six people were killed. His road back has been a tough one. In the past, he supplied the help in times of disasters. This time around, he found it odd to ask for help. But over the last two years, he's seen the best from neighbors, the two young men helping him this afternoon and the Samaritan Center.And he knows this is not the end of the story, God has something for us to do because he spared us that night three times.
