Photolator visited Hong Kong, China. There is so much to see and do in this fast-paced metropolis, where you have to expect the unexpected. The territory was handed over from the United Kingdom to China in 1997. Something remains of its British heritage and monarchical past.
One way to enjoy Hong Kong is by visiting the Disneyland resort that can be reached by the Disney train. Or jump in the Chinese Dragon, one of the mega roller coasters at Hong Kong Ocean Park. Everywhere we see Chinese paraphernalia which is perfect for buying gifts. And learn the Chinese zodiac, China’s own version of the horoscope, to know which animal you are.
To see Hong Kong from above, start by riding the Peak Tram. After a short ride, debark at the Peak Galleria and reach Sky Terrace 428, with stunning views of Central Hong Kong. Come back using the panoramic escalators. Or start from Central Ferry Pier, where you can catch a multilingual open deck bus tour. See the classics and the construction frenzy of Hong Kong.
Hungry? There is food available everywhere. Grab skewers on the go, and enjoy the street food galore without splurging. Century eggs are a local specialty, and so is the spicy crab sold in eateries on Temple Street.
Downtown Hong Kong is the area called Causeway Bay.
Take the Star Ferry from Causeway Bay to Kowloon, and walk to The Peninsula Hotel for teatime. Upon your return, enjoy a night cruise around Victoria Harbour to admire stunning laser and 3D light shows. It’s always safe at night.
Hong Kong has many parks, pagodas and temples to explore. You can even see your first live pandas.
