Childcare workers in Washington, DC have long been undervalued and underpaid for their essential work in providing quality care and early education to our youngest residents. But now, they face an even greater threat to their financial stability with many childcare centers closing their doors and struggling to stay afloat, these workers are risking their health and safety while working for low wages.

In response to this crisis, we call on the DC Council to restore the pay equity funds that were previously allocated to support childcare workers. These funds could help bridge the pay gap for early educators, providing them with the fair wages and benefits they deserve.

We stand with our childcare champions to demand equal pay for early childhood educators. Chairman Mendelson and the DC Council must fully fund the Pay Equity Fund. Not doing so means the step forward to support our early childhood educator will become millions of steps back. Invest in the workforce behind the workforce.
