(12 Feb 2022) The head of the Court of Arbitration for Sport Matthieu Reeb said on Saturday that the hearing for the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva will begin on Sunday evening, with a decision to be announced on Monday.
According to Reeb, the hearing is set to begin at 8:30pm local time on Sunday via video conference, but he declined to comment further on the case.
When asked if Valieva would be able to compete on Tuesday 15, he replied "I don't know".
The Russian figure skater had earlier tested positive for a banned substance and her right to compete in the women's event at the Beijing Olympics will be decided at the urgent hearing.
With her doping case still to be decided, Valieva broke down in tears after her latest emotional practice session at the Olympics.
She won a gold medal in the team event five days ago and is next scheduled to compete in the women's competition on Tuesday.
She set world record scores this season and landed the first quad jump by a woman at an Olympic event.
