Im geschichtsträchtigen Pays- d’Enhaut in den Waadtländer Voralpen haben auch die Cluniazenser ihre Spuren hinterlassen, Kirchen-Revolutionäre, die im 11. Jahrhundert das Klosterleben erneuern wollten. Im Dorf Rougemont (1’007 m ü. M.) bauten sie 1080 die Kirche Saint-Nicolas in klassischer Cluniazenser-Manier in Form eines lateinischen Kreuzes. Das Grundstück hatte ihnen der Graf von Greyerz geschenkt, um ein Kloster zu errichten. Das heutige Dach repräsentiert den typischen Berner Oberländer Stil. Wie das Château de Rougemont (1572 erbaut) steht die dem Märtyrer Nikolaus von Myras geweihte Kirche unter Denkmalschutz. Das Dorf ist wegen seiner Holz-Chalets aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert sehenswert.
Das von der Saane (frz. La Sarine) durchflossene Pays-d’Enhaut gehört zum Kanton Waadt, während der Talabschnitt La Gruyère mit der Stadt Bulle (771 m ü. M.) im Kanton Freiburg liegt. Das Saanenland um Gstaad (1’050 m ü. M.) gehört zum Berner Kantonsgebiet.
An einer Engstelle talaufwärts erhebt sich der bewaldete Gipfel des Marengo (1’230 m ü. M.), der die Kantone Waadt und Bern nicht nur geografisch voneinander abgrenzt: Hüben spricht man französisch, drüben deutsch. Dahinter öffnet sich das Saanenland mit dem Flugfeld Saanen (1’002 m ü. M.).

The village of Rougemont (1,007 m above sea level) is situated in the Pays-d’Enhaut in the Vaud pre-Alps. This valley section is traversed by the river Saane (French: La Sarine). The Pays-d’Enhaut belongs to the canton of Vaud, whereas La Gruyère and Bulle (771 m above sea level) at the valley entrance belong to the canton of Fribourg, and the Saanenland around Gstaad (1,050 m above sea level) belongs to the canton of Bern. The originally Romanic church Saint-Nicolas and the Château de Rougemont lie at the southern edge of the valley.

The tree-covered summit of the Marengo (1,230 m above sea level), the border between the cantons of Vaud and Bern and therefore also the language border, rises further up the valley at a narrow place. Behind it opens the Saanenland region with the Saanen airfield (1,002 m above sea level).
