The theory of separation of power was proposed by the french philosopher, Montesquieu. The basic philosophy behind the theory of separation of power is that no one man enjoys unlimited power. Powers of government shall be divided into 3 departments i.e. the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary.

Though watertight separation is neither practically possible more desirable. So, India adopted the doctrine of checks and balances.

In this video, we shall take a look at both of these concepts.
