In this video, we take you through the exciting race to the Moon between the Soviet Union and America during the Cold War. All was just set off in 1957 when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, marking the first time an artificial satellite had been sent into orbit. It marked the beginning of the space race. America then launched Explorer 1 in 1958, their first satellite.

The competition became hotter in 1961 when a Soviet astronaut named Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into space. America responded by initiating Project Mercury, and they were able to successfully send John Glenn into orbit around Earth in 1962.

Finally, it was America's turn, leading in 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission landing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon and becoming the first to ever step on its surface. It was a day when human history was scripted to change forever.
