Pavor were a German death metal band, formed in 1987 and released 2 full lenghts, 1 EP, 1 split and 2 demos. In their later years, the band went full tech death, but this EP shows greatly how the band evolved gradually into that sound.
"Pavor" reminds me a hell of a lot of Immolation, maybe their "Here in After" era, with all their jumpy and unpredictable riffs. Pavor pretty much did that before Immolation and with more technicality. It really does make sense how a band that had such intricate lead riffs would end up writing pure tech death. However, as technical as Pavor were, they still fit some thrashy old school death riffs in the mix, adding up to a much needed variety in their music and making the EP much more enjoyable. Their tone is also somewhat buzzsaw-ish, which makes me wonder if they were using a HM-2 or a bootleg clone.
