SOUTHERN MOONRISE AT THE MAJOR LUNAR STANDSTILL | JUNE 21, 2024 | GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

Описание к видео SOUTHERN MOONRISE AT THE MAJOR LUNAR STANDSTILL | JUNE 21, 2024 | GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

A live broadcast from Griffith Observatory of the full Moon rising on the eastern horizon at its most southerly position in over 18 years.
Every 18.6 years, our Moon reaches the extremes of its orbit around the Earth. We observe this as the Moon rises and sets at its most northerly and southerly positions on the horizon. On the evening of June 21, we will observe the Moon rising as far to the south as it ever does. This happens during the Major Lunar Standstill.
