Описание к видео THE Abyss Trailer 1 (1989 35mm) 4K From Walt Disney & 20th Century Fox Widescreen

The Abyss is a 1989 American science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron, starring Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn. The film won an Academy Award for Best Special Effects and received three nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound.

Filming began on August 15, 1988, and on the first day, a water leak had already occurred. The studio hired dam repair experts to seal it.

Cameron chose Mikael Salomon as his second director, who used three cameras specially designed for working underwater. Safety measures included a decompression chamber and a backup diver for each actor. They filmed their scenes at 11 m (36 ft) deep, and some technicians at 17 m (57 ft).[6]

To create the water tentacle, Cameron initially considered using stop-motion, but then Phil Tippett suggested he contact Industrial Light & Magic. ILM designed a program to produce liquid-effect surfaces. By the time the tentacle mimics Lindsey's face, Mastrantonio's face was scanned via software. It took ILM six months to create the 75 seconds in which the creature appears. The film was originally scheduled for release on July 4, 1989, but was delayed for more than a month while computer effects were added. [6] [14]

Executives were very nervous, and it was rumored that they ordered a change to the ending.

When promoting the film on Late Night with David Letterman, Cameron said the budget had been $43 million. [15]
