The episode begins In the year 1961, in the town of Matchez, Mississippi, Coby is applying for the position of secretary to the dollmaker, Van Wirt . The interview quickly turns into an engaging exchange of words between the two. Coby, during the interview, observes Van Wirt's peculiar philosophy that dolls represent the pinnacle of divine perfection. With a hint of humor, she jests that perhaps he would prefer her more if she were made of plastic. Despite the lighthearted exchange, the interview concludes with an unexpected twist. Coby does not secure the position and, in a sudden and alarming turn of events, Van Wirt's assistant, Eustace, renders her unconscious. Following Van Wirt's orders, Eustace takes her away.
