Interview with Alex Holmes, director of ‘The Last Rider’ a film about Greg LeMond and the 1989 Tour

“The epic comeback story of cycling Greg LeMond,” says the poster with the extra tag-line: “The only American to win the Tour de France.”
This documentary is really about the 1989 Tour de France and the eventual champion, LeMond, is the subject. More than a biography, it's also a fantastic look into cycling in a time of significant change.
In cinemas now, The Last Rider is a feature film about cycling and many stories associated with one race in particular. LeMond claimed the Tour de France in 1989 by the smallest winning margin in history... and that's only part of the story.
I talk with film-maker Alex Holmes, about the inspiration for making the movie, LeMond, broadcasting, cycling, and many other topics that remain relevant in 2023 because of a race in 1989.
