JBL Control CT24 Micro problem

Описание к видео JBL Control CT24 Micro problem

I made this video to clearly demonstrate the issue I've been having with the CT24 Micro speakers. After installing over 3000 of these speakers since 2005, I've been having problems this year with the swing-out mounting tabs, or as the Canadian distributor refers to them "dog ears".

The problem is that the dog ear comes out of the extrusion it is supposed to travel along, causing it to jam, which causes the screw to break when I try to loosen it.

In the past this would happen about once or twice a year among 250 to 300 speakers (750 to 900 dog ears) which is less than 1% failure rate. So far this year I have experienced a 25% failure rate of these dog ears to work properly even though my installation technique remains unchanged. I have sent several emails with photos to the company I'm doing the work for, and they have forwarded them to the distributor that they purchase them from. The last email from the distributor stated that I was to loosen the screw a half turn before tightening, and to use a hand screwdriver. They were kind enough to attach the page from the installation manual stating the exact same thing.

I decided to make a video using the technique in the manual for all to see. Unfortunately 1 of the 3 dog ears popped out of the extrusion, and another one jammed and I couldn't tighten further without backing it off first.

I've been installing ceiling speakers for over 25 years and never had this problem more than 1% of the time. I always use a screw gun and have installed speakers made by several companies that use the same dog ears to mount the speaker.
