India police, protesters clash as demonstrations continue against citizenship law

Thousands of protesters gathered in parts of India on Friday, Dec. 20 as people continued their opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed citizenship law.

During the demonstrations, police clashed with protesters, with each side pelting one another with stones and water cannons later being used against demonstrators.

So far, eight people have been left dead from the protests and more than 1,200 detained.

The law has created controversy with people alleging it discriminates against Muslims.
